Fundamental Nursing Skills 1, 2 and 3 will be taught over the first 3 semesters of the program. Through practice in the clinical laboratory setting, students will develop their competency in nursing skills. Fundamental Nursing Skills plays a vital role in ensuring patient safety and quality care in nursing care. Fundamental Nursing Skills 1 will provide students with an understanding of knowledge and skills required for patient admission and discharge processes within any health facility. This will include students performance history taking from a patient, taking accurate vital signs and ensuring appropriate and accurate documentation of patients data. Students will also be introduced to key concepts of infection prevention and control including the definition of infection, antimicrobial resistance and control methods fundamental to safe nursing practice.
