This course introduces students to the core concepts and basic principles in microbiology and their relevance to human health. Topics include an overview of infectious agents and microbe-human interactions, as well as basic concepts of viruses, bacteria, and fungi and how and where they can cause infection in humans. Students will also have a chance to visit a microbiology laboratory to develop a greater understanding of the importance of quality specimen collection and correct transport, processing of identification of organisms, and provision of results.
