This course is the first in three courses on Maternal Health Nursing. In Maternal Health Nursing 1, students will be introduced to the latest trends that influence maternal health, infant and child health and also trends in current healthcare services that deliver care to women and children. They will then focus on the nursing care of women having a normal pregnancy and a normal delivery. Lessons will include care of the woman throughout the pregnancy including appropriate health promotion and health education. A focus on normal delivery will include assessment and monitoring the progress of labour and appropriate pain management in labour.
