In this course students will focus on the nursing care of the mother in the postpartum phase. Early postpartum care as well as discharge planning and late postpartum care to ensure that the holistic wellbeing of the mother will be introduced in detail to the students. They will then focus on the specific nursing care for a newborn. Comprehensive assessment of the newborn will be covered along with the nursing knowledge and skills required to enable successful establishment and maintenance of breastfeeding for a new mother.
