This course will focus on the knowledge and skills required for emergency nursing. It is designed to give students an in-depth understanding of the nature of emergency nursing and first aid and the roles of the nurse either in pre-hospital settings or within a hospital setting. Students will be expected to complete a range of competencies including triage, assessment, and management of common medical emergencies. The topics include hemorrhage, trauma, environmental emergencies, and injuries as well as psychiatric emergencies. Students will have opportunities to practice competencies in a simulation lab.
