This course focuses on understanding the concepts of Evidence-Based Practice (EBP). Students will receive an introduction to the framework of evidence-based practice, which can guide them through the process of identifying clinical problems, searching for evidence to solve problems, appraising evidence, and applying this knowledge into actual practice.
Fundamentals of Nursing Skills III continues from Fundamentals of Nursing Skills II, assisting students in developing clinical knowledge and skills with a focus on foundational clinical nursing skills in safe medication administration and specimen collection. Students will be well-prepared to ensure that the right medication is administered to the right patient, at the right dosage, and via the right route, as well as understanding that all medications have side effects. Afterwards, students will receive guidance on the skills required for obtaining, testing, and interpreting the results of bodily specimens.
Fundamentals of Nursing Skills II continues from Fundamentals of Nursing Skills I, developing students' clinical knowledge and skills by focusing on the tissue-related care of patients. Students will receive guidance on various methods that can promote tissue health for their patients. This care will include necessary hygiene for hospitalized patients. Afterwards, students will receive guidance on risk assessment and prevention of various complications, nutritional status assessment, and pain assessment. Students will be taught about safe patient lifting and moving, including risk assessment.
In addition to Physical Examination I, this course will help students develop technical proficiency in assessing other systems of the lower body, including the musculoskeletal system, cardiovascular system, nervous system, and reproductive system. Students will learn, acquire knowledge, and practice the assessment skills necessary for physical examination in a practice room before providing care to patients.
This course provides students with an understanding of the basics of the immune system. Students will receive an introduction to the processes of body defense mechanisms against infection. Topics in this course include an overview of immune system functions and the different types of responses of the immune system.
This course introduces students to parasitology. Students will gain an understanding of commonly encountered and important parasites, their life cycles, disease transmission, and clinical signs. This course also covers the epidemiology of parasitic diseases, including distribution, prevention, and disease management within the community.
This course introduces students to the core concepts and basic principles in microbiology and their relevance to human health. This topic includes an overview of pathogens and the interaction between microbes and humans, as well as basic concepts regarding viruses, bacteria, and fungi, alongside how and where they can cause infection within the human body. Students will have the opportunity to visit a microbiology laboratory to learn more about the importance of quality sample collection and proper transport, the process of identifying microorganisms, and the reporting of results.
This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the effects of disease-causing processes on the structure and function of the human body. This course will focus on the definition of disease, causes or risk factors of disease, pathology, clinical symptom presentation, diagnostic testing, and treatments for specific health issues. Pathology II will introduce students to diseases related to the cardiovascular system, blood cell disorders and the lymphatic system, and diseases related to the digestive system.
This Anatomy and Physiology III course will help students gain an additional understanding of the relationship between the structure and function of the human body. In this course, students will focus on four major systems in the body. Students will enhance their understanding of the structure and function of the eye, ear, nose, and throat systems, as well as the interrelationships between the structures of the human body. Students will be able to explain the relationship and importance of the integumentary (skin) system of the human body, as well as the structure and function of the urinary system. The final body system that students will study in this course is the structure and function of the nervous system and related organs.
