This course provides opportunities for students to choose an area of interest and study it. This elective course builds further on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students have previously acquired from other courses, culminating in the ability to deliver a poster presentation to their peers. They will gain experience in utilizing peer-learning models and sharing their challenges in creating and presenting standardized posters. Students will develop through creating posters for presentations with guidance and feedback from the instructor.
This course introduces students to healthcare quality improvement and its importance in nursing practice and in improving patient care within today's complex healthcare systems. Implementing quality improvement in nursing will be achieved by focusing on two key aspects of nursing practice: patient-centered care and multidisciplinary teams. Through evidence-based models which serve as the fundamental foundation for all aspects of quality improvement, discussions will be held, and to further complement this point, students will be guided in developing various tools that support continuous quality improvement processes within healthcare facilities.
This course focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for emergency and disaster nursing care. Emergency care is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the nature of emergency care. Students are expected to demonstrate various competencies, such as patient triage: (triage), assessment, management of frequently occurring emergency situations, and the nursing role during disasters. Topics in this course include hemorrhage, trauma, environmental emergencies, psychiatric emergencies, ensuring the safety of the rescuer themselves, victims, and the environment, as well as prioritizing and sorting patients, first aid, effective communication, and coordination of care within the scope of practice and national guidelines. Students will have the opportunity to practice competencies in the demonstration/practice room. In disaster care, students will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to assist in managing public health emergencies and during natural disasters.
This course introduces nursing students to the principles and practice of specialized skills in perioperative care. Theoretical knowledge is integrated with existing knowledge and skills in infection prevention and control. Students will follow the patient throughout the perioperative process, starting from preoperative assessment up to postoperative care. Students will acquire foundational nursing skills to provide safe care.
This course provides students with opportunities to build knowledge, skills, and attitudes in geriatric care and end-of-life care. Students will be able to apply their communication skills during geriatric care by utilizing critical thinking skills and decision-making skills. Students will gain an understanding of caring for patients at the end stage of life. The purpose of this course: is to give students further confidence in caring for elderly patients and to promote healthy living along with long-term care.
This course introduces students to all aspects of growth and development which form the fundamental foundation for pediatric and family care. Students will gain knowledge and skills in providing comprehensive care using the nursing process. Students will be provided with an understanding of childhood illnesses and common disorders, and will be introduced to pain management using international guidelines on the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI), which aims to reduce child mortality, disability, and the severity of illness and disability. Pain management guidelines guide students in assessment, classification, treatment, referral, and follow-up care for sick children. Case studies will be used to ensure students develop the knowledge and skills applied in practice, including writing nursing care plans. Students will increase their understanding of the role of pediatric nurses in illness prevention through immunization and focus on providing appropriate health education for continuous child care to families.
This course students will be introduced to factors influencing the mental health and well-being of populations through different stages of life. Concerning behaviors and preventive factors will also be brought up for discussion. This course also focuses on common mental health disorders and how substance abuse affects patients of all ages. Students will focus on developing competencies that assist them in conducting examinations, basic assessments, and prompt interventions in managing cases of people with mental health illnesses in all settings, including hospitals and communities. Health promotion and illness prevention are also integrated, including the requirement for nurses to advocate for providing continuous education to the public on mental health issues, with the goal of combating social stigma.
